Last Thursday, The Restaurant at BCoT buzzed with warmth and conversation as faith leaders and community champions came together for the annual Basingstoke Interfaith Meal.

Trustee Madhu Panue and Communications Executive Simran Atwal proudly represented the Basingstoke Sikh Society, joining collaborators from across Hampshire in a celebration of unity.

A moving keynote from a senior police officer recounted her experiences confronting hate and championing inclusion, reminding us that every voice matters in the fight against prejudice.

Mayor Colin Phillimore, Councillor John McKay and MP Luke Murphy each spoke passionately about rising tensions in the UK and the vital importance of standing together. “Our strength is in our diversity,” affirmed Cllr Phillimore. “By celebrating one another, we build the resilient, welcoming community we all aspire to.”

Over steaming plates of starters and mains, conversations sparked new collaborations, from shared youth projects to joint outreach for vulnerable neighbours. Laughter and empathy wove through every table as attendees exchanged stories, contact details and, most importantly, hope.

This year’s Interfaith Meal wasn’t just an event—it was a living testament to what’s possible when hearts and hands unite. We look forward to turning the inspiration from this co-operation into tomorrow’s action, forging partnerships that uplift contribution from Sikhs across Basingstoke.
